  Convince Me
When Nixon said, "I am not a crook," he was lying.

When Clinton said, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky," he was lying.

When Johnson told us our patrol boats in the Tonkin Gulf were the victims of unprovoked attacks, he was lying.

So why should we believe President Bush when he tells us this port deal with Dubai Ports World has been thoroughly examined and represents no threat to our safety and security?

Good point.

I am by no means a Bush syncophant. I have issues with a lot of his proposals. But, I do know that he has, so far, by his actions and their track record demonstrated that he has been the right man to stand up to those who gave us that black eye back on 9/11.

Why should we trust him? Consider his track record. A cowboy has been the right kind of man in the position of Commander in Chief of our armed forces thus far.

While, you might be right about the difficulty in trusting the statements of past Presidents, such as the ones mentioned, there is this little voice in the back of my thoughts that says we might need to hold out a little on this one before we rush to judgement.

I could be wrong though. I certainly hope that I'm not.

I'm gonna withhold judgement on this one. I was pretty upset when I first heard about the proposal. Then I did a little research and found out the ports are already being run by a foreign company (British, I think).

Hopefully, G.W. knows what's he's doing on this one. I gotta trust that he does.

Howdy. I'm not sure how the first three examples relate to your question, but I think the question itself is kind of flawed... the ports themselves are insecure, at least according to articles in/on Businessweek, CBS, Worldnet, the Seattle Post, etc. I think before we start asking these questions about individual companies, we should perhaps clean up what currently exists... you know?

I don't even know where to start with the whole "bush is trustworthy" thing. Should we begin with his trashing of the 14th Amendment? His lies about child-wellness programs back when he was Governor of Texas? Social Security? No Child Left Behind? Clear Skies? AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

I say, let's make 2008 a real election. Let's talk about the issues. Let's freaking DIALONG.

And let's elect somebody smart. Whoever it might be.

Rock on.
