  Today in US History
The U.S. Constitution went into effect this day, June 21, 1788, when the ninth state ratified it.

Of those who wrote the Constitution, twenty-nine were Episcopalians, nine Presbyterians, seven Congregationalists, two Lutherans, two Dutch Reformed, two Methodists, two Roman Catholics, one Quaker and one Deist - Dr. Benjamin Franklin, who stated: "We have been assured...in the Sacred Writings, that 'except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain'...I...believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel."
