  Ready For War
Remember all those poor, misled, hapless youths who are being so slyly seduced into enlisting in the military? Recruiters tempting them with bonuses, guaranteed jobs and the like, never telling them that they might be expected to pick up a weapon and defend the country they are swearing an oath to?
"Going to war, more than job opportunities and money for college, is the post-September 11 allure for joining the armed services, military officials say. And, in a trend that bewilders and dismays those opposed to the war in Iraq, enlistment numbers are up and recruiting goals are mostly being met or exceeded."
The story by W. Thomas Smith, Jr. in the Washington Times also puts to lie the myth that recruiting is down due to the war in Iraq.
"For four out of the past five years, the Army has exceeded its goal for active-duty recruits, while regularly increasing the number desired. ... The Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps have all met or exceeded their annual recruiting goals for every year since September 11, although some monthly and quarterly shortfalls have occurred. For 2005 ... the Air Force exceeded its active recruiting goal ... by 322; the Navy topped its goal ... by 68; and the Marines exceeded their ... target by 44."
As George C. Scott said in "Patton", "Americans love to fight, traditionally. All real Americans love the sting and clash of battle. You are here today for three reasons. First, because you are here to defend your homes and your loved ones. Second, you are here for your own self respect, because you would not want to be anywhere else. Third, you are here because you are real men and all real men like to fight."

And as the real Patton said, "The highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one's country. Hence it is a proud privilege to be a soldier -- a good soldier."

To back this up witness the words of Marine recruit Christian Dillard, "I want to see action." The former high school soccer player from Auburn, Ala. made his decision to enlist as he watched the September 11 attacks from his classroom TV. "I had to do something."

Thank God some of us remember.

Comments:
So...when are you going to fulfill your "obligation"?

Been fulfilling it for the last 18 years. How about you?

I see you deleted my comment where I proved not only was your post bullshit...so was your claim to military service.

You are so pathetic.

Go ahead and delete this one too. I'll leave you in peace with your fantasies.

I read with some humor your comment Jay. I can't speak for the alleged deletion of comments but I can speak about Jame's "obligation" of military service. You see, I had the pleasure of serving on active duty with James for three years. Because of my position, I was able to review his service record. I can validate his claim of 18 years of faithful service.

Where is your proof of service?

Oh, as a side note, a wise man once commented only the mentally deficient resort to profanities to prove a point.

Sparky, if not mentally deficient, then at the very least incapable of expressing himself intelligently. More than a little bit of a hypocrite too, since within a month he blogged about being proud of his own foul mouth then complained about other's profanity.

Jay, first, you didn't disprove a thing. Second, I'm not about to let you insult my friend - who by the way, has been under fire in combat (not just in his imagination, like you)and has continued to serve, both in the military and as a law enforcement officer (for free, no less.)

Like I said, go back to your cat-blogging and your self-pity. We'll keep on defending your right to be an idiot.

Jay,

I guess now you know what its like to get a dose of your own medicine you hypocrite.

How about you go back to your cat fantasies. You don't belong in a forum where ideas are exchanged.

I've noticed something interesting here, James. Maybe it's just me.

Jay seems to go on and on about his alleged military service. When asked to verify or validate his service record, he seems to sidestep the issue and go off on some rant that has nothing (or at least very little) to do with the post at hand.

Once again I will ask where is your proof of service Jay? Will you prove yourself to be nothing but a pompous windbag by ignoring the topic at hand and responding only with more insults and meaningless diatribe?
